The horizontal Brazilian ipe wood look is very much at home in Venice, California.

It is almost the quintessential beach house look in this area.

We went with our Mar Vista fence post system which mounts the wood using screws through the back to give a clean look on the front.

As usual, our top recommendation for the gate hardware on this job was the Lockey USA marine grade model 2835.

This mechanical (versus electronic) digital entry system is durable and tested.

Every job has its own unique request or requirement in some form or fashion; this one had a mailbox with a USPS-approved mail key that needed to also be flush-mounted next to the door.

Behind the fence, the customer also wanted us to add an accent wall of ipe to extend the height of cover by the adjoining neighbor's retaining wall.

It is hard to see (we didn't get a shot of it on video) but that tall accent wall uses the Deck Wise brand ipe plug system which uses a countersink drill bit to create a hole through the face of the wood for the screws to go through the front and into the steel posts behind it.

Then it uses plugs made of ipe wood that fit into the countersink holes to cover the screws and leave no visible hardware.

The Deck Wise screw and plug system is a great solution for a hardware-free face.

They offer stainless steel screws for both wood and steel, the latter being a self-tapping screw.

The street has a slope towards the beach which is literally at the end of the block.

So, we had to custom cut the bottom pieces of wood to gradually get wider on the side that goes towards the beach.
